Dr. James Pollowitz has been in practice for over 30 years. Long interested in patient and physician education, he founded one of the oldest parent support groups in the U.S., Parents of Allergic and Asthmatic Children of Westchester, serving as its physician advisor for twelve years. Dr. Pollowitz lectures regularly to lay and professional groups on Allergy/Immunology topics.
I enjoy the practice of allergy because allergies can be chronic diseases which often interfere with a patient’s (and parent’s) enjoyment of life. We have the ability to improve that quality of life. I find the intellectual challenge of correct diagnosis and treatments stimulating. Our field (allergy/immunology) continues to gain new insights; a prime example is our expanding knowledge in the area of food allergies. I also enjoy following my patients (some of them now for over 30 years) from childhood through adulthood.
I have 2 children and 3 grandchildren, so I can readily appreciate the joys and challenges of parenthood.
