Herbert A. Newman, MD, FAAP
As a Pediatrician, I have the advantage of following my patients from birth through college. In fact, I view both children and their parents as “my patients”. In early infancy I am here to help with, explain, and listen to parental needs. Many of the parents in my practice were themselves my patients. I view their children as “my grandchildren”.
Having been an attending pediatrician at Blythedale Children’s Hospital for over 46 years I have a special interest and expertise in the pediatric needs of children with handicaps. I’ve been honored by both Blythedale and White Plains Hospital for my service.
My interests outside of practice include classical music, photography and travel. I have served on the board of the Westchester Chamber Music Society for many years. Many summer weekends are spent enjoying the wonderful classical music at Tanglewood in the Berkshires. My world wide travels have been most rewarding, and have resulted in many wonderful photographs on the walls of my office, which I enjoy discussing with my patients. I am able to offer travel advice to families. It’s a good bet that I’ve been to many of the places they’re visiting.
Parents know that I’m available to speak with them every morning at 7:45 to discuss problems or make early morning appointments. Of course I’m available for the rest of the day also; I return messages promptly. Teenagers know that they can, and do call me from home or college with medical questions or concerns. I’m pleased that several of my former patients credit me with their decisions to become pediatricians. It’s the most sincere form of flattery!
